we talked about it more,
we understood more,
it had the effect
of making us aware
of the importance
of allowing things.
New York State,
passed a law
a couple days ago
other states will,
it’s inevitable
partly because people
have gay people
in their families.
And they don’t push them out,
at least the families I know
don’t push them out.
I still remember wondering
how my mother would respond
to this gay couple,
relatives in the family,
they came to family events.
My mother didn’t miss a step
she just welcomed them.
